Woven in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu.
Chettinad cotton comes off handlooms around Karaikudi, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It is a heavier, tighter cotton than most, which is why it holds a crisp pleat instead of collapsing, and why it softens with every wash rather than wearing thin. The body and the border are woven in different colours on the same loom, not stitched together afterwards. Run your thumb along where the two meet when it arrives: you will feel the weave change, not a seam.
A dark olive green body with a visible slub texture, scattered with small buttas in rust, maroon and green. The mustard border frames a silver band carrying a row of elephants and peacocks, edged above and below by fine floral lines. Mustard tassels finish the pallu.
Pure cotton, so it breathes through a Delhi summer. The busiest border in the range, which makes it the one to wear when the occasion asks for a little more. Pair it with mustard or rust.

Saree care
Dry clean for the first few washes, especially sarees with zari. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack at the creases.
