Woven in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu.
Chettinad cotton comes off handlooms around Karaikudi, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It is a heavier, tighter cotton than most, which is why it holds a crisp pleat instead of collapsing, and why it softens with every wash rather than wearing thin. The body and the border are woven in different colours on the same loom, not stitched together afterwards. Run your thumb along where the two meet when it arrives: you will feel the weave change, not a seam.
A deep bottle green body with a fine slub texture through the weave, and a mustard border framing a silver band. The border carries a row of elephants; a peacock with a long tail sits at the pallu end.
Pure cotton, so it breathes through a Delhi summer. Dark enough for a workday, with enough border detail to carry a festival lunch. Pair it with mustard or unbleached cream.

Saree care
Dry clean for the first few washes, especially sarees with zari. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack at the creases.
