Woven in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu.
Chettinad cotton comes off handlooms around Karaikudi, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It is a heavier, tighter cotton than most, which is why it holds a crisp pleat instead of collapsing, and why it softens with every wash rather than wearing thin. The body and the border are woven in different colours on the same loom, not stitched together afterwards. Run your thumb along where the two meet when it arrives: you will feel the weave change, not a seam.
A sand beige body with a fine ribbed texture, worked with maroon mango buttas placed well apart so the fabric does most of the talking. The plum border is separated from the body by a set of thin stripes rather than a heavy band, which keeps the whole saree light.
Pure cotton, so it breathes through a Delhi summer. The lightest looking piece in the range and the most forgiving in heat. Pair it with plum, maroon or plain white.

Saree care
Dry clean for the first few washes, especially sarees with zari. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack at the creases.
