Woven in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu.
Chettinad cotton comes off handlooms around Karaikudi, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It is a heavier, tighter cotton than most, which is why it holds a crisp pleat instead of collapsing, and why it softens with every wash rather than wearing thin. The body and the border are woven in different colours on the same loom, not stitched together afterwards. Run your thumb along where the two meet when it arrives: you will feel the weave change, not a seam.
A peacock blue body with a plum contrast border, divided by a single thin gold line. Buttas are placed sparingly across the body, a silver mango on one side and a deep red floral on the other, each woven in rather than printed on.
Pure cotton, so it breathes through a Delhi summer. The plum and blue combination is dressier than a plain cotton without being formal, which makes it a good office-to-evening saree. Pair it with plum, or with silver jewellery against the blue.

Saree care
Dry clean for the first few washes, especially sarees with zari. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack at the creases.
