Woven in Chettinad, Tamil Nadu.
Chettinad cotton comes off handlooms around Karaikudi, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It is a heavier, tighter cotton than most, which is why it holds a crisp pleat instead of collapsing, and why it softens with every wash rather than wearing thin. The body and the border are woven in different colours on the same loom, not stitched together afterwards. Run your thumb along where the two meet when it arrives: you will feel the weave change, not a seam.
An olive brown body with a fine crosshatch texture, worked with two kinds of butta: gold geometric motifs running in vertical rows, and small navy paisleys scattered between them. The navy border carries a wide gold brocade band with a scrolling floral vine along its length.
Pure cotton, so it breathes through a Delhi summer. The muted body against a strong border makes this an easy saree to wear often. Pair it with navy, or with mustard for more contrast.

Saree care
Dry clean for the first few washes, especially sarees with zari. Store folded in a cotton or muslin cloth, away from direct sunlight, and refold along different lines every few months so the zari does not crack at the creases.
